Chat Dinger: The extension. The thing I tell my mom I'm working on. The thing you show your boss.
blooop.lol: For the insiders.
Me: Still just one confused soul trying to make it in life.
Goal: own "bloop" and take over the world.
Look, it started simple. It's still simple, but it started simple too.
In 2024 I was using claude to code up a bitcoin scavenger hunt. I found myself sitting there staring at claude's spinning bunghole like my granddad used to watch his eggos.
Every time, I would ultimately get distracted and find myself forgetting about my generation for an hour. Then when I went to go test it, it would have a bug. When meant I would copy pasta and try again. Ad nauseum.
Since, claude is pretty good at coding, I decided to try and solve my own problem. Getting distracted while waiting on the slop machine.
So, I made a browser extension that went blooop when the AI is finished generating.
That way I could vibe faster.
That's it. That was the whole thing. An extension that me and my friends used in "developer mode" for over a year.
No grand vision. No 5-year roadmap. Just me, tired of watching claude's you know what.
Then I learned chatgpt has way more users than claude. A lot of users. Like 800 million weekly active users.
Inspired by my friend who invented the flashlight app for the iphone, I decided to take a swing. So I ported it over to chatgpt and put it on the chrome web store.
And people started using it.
slowly.
Bored, lost and trying to grow my downloads, I posted about it on LinkedIn. Because why not...
People started congratulating me on my "new job at chat dinger."
I'm talking multiple people. Not just those people on LinkedIn selling "professional services."
These were real people. People I know. People with titles like "Senior VP of Whatever" dropping comments and sending messages like:
Which is ridiculous, because there is no company.
It's literally just a browser extension that makes a sound.
No idea for ways to make money. Just a simple tool with a massive user base.
Then last friday, I was sitting in a coffee shop, thinking about what I was going to do when I growed up, when Danny McBride walked in.
Maybe a bit unconventional, but I asked myself, "what would Jesse Gemstone do?"
That's when it hit me.
Just have fun with it. Just make something stupid. Something Danny might do.
Run with chat dinger. Oh, and ditch chat dinger. That name is lame. eww.
Go all in on the joke. blooop.
So that's where we are now. Two brands, one tool.
Chat Dinger The respectable one. The one I show my mom. The one with some SEO juices. The one my friends think is a real company. Clean. Professional. "AI productivity tool for notifications." Your boss sees this and goes "huh, neat."
blooop.lol The truth. The one for people who get it. The insiders. The ones who are tired of all the try hards. The ones who read the source code. The ones who appreciate a ridiculous attempt like this.
So yeah, i guess my goal is to give the robots a voice, have as much fun as possible, and take over the term "bloop" in the process.
and maybe share a little bit of the glory with you.
So, will you help me?
Honestly? No idea.
Maybe this becomes a thing. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe in 6 months someone actually tries to acquire "Chat Dinger" and I have to explain that it's just me, a sound file, and some JavaScript held together by craft beer and caffeine.
But for now, I'm just gonna try and market this thing. Blooop. And maybe make some tiny tweaks to the extension. Because people seem to like it. And every time someone leaves me review, or congratulates me on my "new job," I smile a little.
First goal, hack my way to 10,000 downloads. Then a bajillion.
IDFK
But I do know I need your help. Cause like they say, the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
So, will you be my next bite? Please?
Be my hero and download Chat Dinger today.
New drops, new sounds, and maybe a puzzle here and there.
